About

From the beginning, our relationship has been based on humor, honest conversation, and a sense of adventure. We love being outdoors, but are just as happy at home reading, listening to music, or watching a movie together. Most evenings you will find us in the kitchen with music playing, food sizzling, and our dog Churro circling our feet while conversations drift easily between Spanish and English. Laura loves adding imaginative what if scenarios to our talks that spark thoughtful and sometimes hilarious discussions. Over the years we have learned how to slow down, listen, and support one another with patience and care, and that teamwork is something we look forward to bringing into parenting.

About Laura, Written by Victor

Laura's joy is contagious. Recently she dialed me by mistake while doing chores, and the voicemail started with her talking to Churro and slowly turned into her singing in a completely silly voice. It was unfiltered, joyful, and entirely her. That natural warmth helps others feel comfortable quickly, and many of my friends' kids still ask about her after meeting her only once because of her laughter and the way she connects with them so easily. I deeply admire her determination too. She moved from Colombia as a teenager, learned English, and worked full time while completing college. Laura balances strength with humor, and I know she will create a home where a child feels free to be themselves.

About Victor, Written by Laura

Victor is one of the most thoughtful and quietly driven people I know, and I admire how incredibly smart and humble he is. Whether he is caring for patients at work or building something in the garage, I see how seriously he takes responsibility and how much he cares about doing things well. He will happily spend an evening reading about dog training, determined to be the best possible dog dad to Churro. When things feel uncertain he slows down, thinks it through, and brings a steadiness that makes our life feel secure. I picture him crouching in the driveway with our child to fix a bike tire or study a line of ants with a magnifying glass, patiently answering every why along the way. I know he will be a loving, patient father.

Career and Family Time

Victor is an emergency room doctor, while Laura works in property renovation and management. Laura plans to step back from new projects in the early months, and Victor's shift schedule already gives him long stretches at home between shifts. Between our schedules, our child will always have one of us close by. In our free time, we picture weekday evenings cooking dinner together with our little one helping stir the pot, and weekends that end with sandy feet at the beach and a tired, happy puppy.

Our Home and Community

We live in a friendly residential neighborhood in San Diego, in a home we renovated together with a front patio and a spacious backyard where we share meals with friends, play with Churro, and spend warm evenings outside. We are lucky to live next to a community park with a basketball court, playground, and cactus garden. On most afternoons it fills with kids riding bikes, and on weekends it comes alive with birthday parties, family barbecues, and even quinceañeras. We are about ten minutes from Balboa Park and fifteen from the beach, so the zoo, the museums, and the ocean are part of our everyday life. We love picturing quiet mornings rocking a little one on the patio and afternoons pushing a swing at the park just steps from our door.

Interests and Hobbies

We love being outdoors, whether that means biking along the coast, heading to the beach, or spending the day at the San Diego Zoo with friends and their kids. Victor enjoys running and recently took up woodworking, and Laura loses track of time sewing and making handmade gifts for the people she loves. We look forward to sharing all of it with our child, from building sand castles at the beach to little projects in the garage to packing mango snacks for a family hike. Our favorite days are the unplanned and slightly messy ones, when we run into friends, stay outside too long, or lose track of time cooking dinner with music on.

Personal Values

Family and culture sit at the heart of our home. Spanish and English mix at our dinner table, and we dream of raising a child who feels proud of every part of who they are. We want language to be a bridge that connects our child to their roots and to the world, through songs, traditions, long meals, and visits with family here and in Colombia. We also value curiosity, kindness, and resilience, and we hope to teach those things not just through words but by modeling them every day.

Openness

We believe our child's story begins before us. Your child will always have roots that matter, and we would never want that to be hidden or minimized. If open adoption is important to you, we would welcome it. We are open to sharing updates, photos, and visits in whatever way feels comfortable for everyone, and we understand that openness can grow or change over time. Above all, we want our child to grow up knowing their story and to feel surrounded by people who care deeply about them, including you in whatever way feels right.

Parenting

We are excited for all of it, the good times and the harder ones. We imagine kneeling on the floor building block towers, answering a hundred why questions before breakfast, and ending the day curled up together reading one more story before our buenas noches. We also know parenting means being there for nighttime feedings, tantrums and difficult teenage moments, and we will keep showing up with patience, honesty, and love. Victor lost his father when he was young, and it taught him how much steady presence matters. We hope to create a home that feels dependable, where a child feels safe to ask questions and make mistakes, knowing they are loved.

In Closing

Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story. We are ready to welcome a child into a life filled with everyday adventures, a wiggly puppy, two languages, and a big circle of family and friends who cannot wait to love them. We know there will be hard days, and we will keep showing up. If you feel a connection to us, we would be grateful for the chance to talk and learn more about you and what you hope for your child.
