Jim & Tanya

Dear Birth Mother,

We can only imagine how challenging this time must be for you as you are trying to make the best decision for the baby you’re carrying. We want to assure you that we will do the absolute best job we are capable of doing as parents, and the child will never want for anything. Please know that you can ask us anything and we will gladly answer any and all questions you may have. This profile will offer a little glimpse of us, but we hope to get to meet you in person and get to know you!

About Jim & Tanya

We’re both writers living in Los Angeles. We’ve been married for a little over three years. We like to joke that we’ve met online – an actual line. Both of us were attending a writer’s conference here in Los Angeles and we ended up in the same queue waiting to meet a producer, and we started talking. At the time, Tanya lived in New York. Ours was a long-distance relationship for almost a year before we moved in together in Los Angeles. Then tragedy struck in the form of breast cancer. Luckily, it was early stage, but still required all of the attending unpleasantness: chemo, radiation, surgeries. All of this is happily in the past and Tanya is completely healthy. Both of us work from home. We are writers and have a script analysis business, which means that movie and TV production companies, producers, writers and/or directors send us their screenplays for feedback. We also produce our own movies. We’re both animal lovers and currently have two dogs and four cats. In our spare time, we volunteer for progressive causes. Other hobbies include movies, reading, and athletics.

Our Home:

We have a 1700-square foot house in Los Angeles with a backyard, which would be perfect for a child’s play area. Our home consists of kitchen, living room, dining room, two bathrooms, two offices for Tanya and Jim as well as two bedrooms. One of the bedrooms is earmarked for the child.

Our house is on a very quiet block in a residential neighborhood. It’s close to Kenneth Hahn State Park as well as several playgrounds. There are many good schools in the nearby Culver City and Palms areas of town.

Tanya on Jim:

Jim is very talented. Apart from being a writer, he is also a musician and painter. He is originally from Westchester, a suburb of New York City and comes from a close-knit Italian family. His mom, who has sadly passed away a few years ago, was one of the first female NYPD detectives and the newspapers named her “lady tiger.” His older sister Cindy also lives in the Los Angeles area, as does his cousin Ro and her family. We are very close with all of them. Jim works hard and always tries to do the right thing. He is a very good listener and always endeavors to give good advice and help wherever he can. He is extremely loyal to his friends and family and always tries to do his best whatever the situation may be. His entrepreneurial, get-up-and-go spirit has resulted in several successful business ventures. Apart from that, he has a great sense of humor and quite a few geek tendencies (as a big Star Trek and Superman aficionado.) Jim is also committed to try and make this world a better place. As a parent, he would be loving, playful, encouraging and fun (he can do spot-on imitations of every Sesame Street muppet.)

Jim on Tanya:

Tanya is a dynamo! She is full of pep and positivity. A generous, giving soul, giving back is a big part of who she is -- from singlehandedly spaying/neutering an entire feral cat colony, to teaching German, to guiding emerging screenwriters, to volunteering for green and progressive causes, she is always the friend who listens and cares and offers to help. At 18 years old, she bravely left Germany to seek a better life in the USA and to pursue her creative dreams, despite speaking little English and having no money. Within a few years she had mastered the language and was writing plays in English as well as working as a copy editor for a well-known book publisher, and running her own theater company! She sets her mind on a goal, and then she achieves it -- there is no stopping her. She is that rare combination of fun and silly, yet organized and practical, level-headed, honest and smart.

Our Thoughts on Parenting:

We believe it is a parent’s job to raise a child to become a happy, healthy, independent human being. Someone who can confidently make decisions and competently take care of themselves. Someone who is happy, well-balanced and looks out for other people as well as the world around him or her. We believe the way to achieve that is through loving guidance and an educational framework which will keep the child safe while also encouraging exploration and independence. Jim has already raised a daughter Allie, a straight-A student who is heading off to college soon, so we’ve had some good practice 
