Eric & Erin

 Dear Birth Mom,

It is strange to be writing a letter to someone we have not yet met. But in truth you are the most important person we could be writing to. We know that the road ahead is one of the hardest decisions any mother or family can make. It is filled with a lot of soul searching and faith. Just know that you are not alone. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to introduce ourselves.

About Eric & Erin

So who is the Ducky Family? We are Eric and Erin andwe are high school sweet hearts. We met our freshmanyear at band competition, Eric was in the “pit” (percussion instruments) and Erin was in the color guard. Eric asked Erin out 3 times before she finally said yes their sophomore year. Somewhere in high school Erin had said she was a duck and that began the rubber ducky collection.

The Ducky Family:

We both went to the same community college but Erin transferred to Sacramento State in the Fall of 2007. We decided to do the long distance relationship and it was hard. But in November on one of Eric’s trips to visit he proposed while Erin was gathering leaves as a bouquet. Our families were happy but a bit scarred as we were so young and so we agree to wait unit Erin had graduated. Three years and two days from that proposal we were marred on November 13, 2010. And it was a Rubber Ducky

Themed wedding.

We spend a lot of time with our family. Erin has a large extended family so we do a lot with them from Birthdays, holidays and whatever in between. In February 2017 we added Webby to our family. She is a cuddle bug that just loves to hang out. We enjoy taking her to the dog park and watching movies at home.

Our Home:

We live in Ventura County in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with a large back yard. It is on a cult a sac down the street from an Elementary School and Park. About a mile down the road there is a Hospital and Library. Eric’s parents live about 10 minutes away. Most of our family lives within a 30 minute drive.

Adopting Parent descriptions:

About Erin:

Erin is a fun loving, happy go lucky person. She will always greet people with a hug. She is a great listener and is always there as a sounding board. She is always there to lend a hand.
In every family there is always one person that brings the family together and that would be Erin. Over the last 10 years Erin has been helping her grandmother to organize family events. One of her hobbies includes researching our family genealogy.
She enjoys spending time with her grandparents and is always up for date with her grandfather. As her side of the family grows I have seen her with many babies and she just lights up and is not scared to just jump right in. I look forward to the day when I can see her face light up with joy when we are blessed with a baby of our own.

About Eric:

Eric is the love of my life and my best friend. We have grown up together and have shared not only the happy times but the hard times. He loves to read and from that he has become my encyclopedia of random knowledge. He is always a constant surprise on what he knows.
His love for music is eclectic and you will never know what is coming next. He can start with some country, jump to the musicals and end with some Queen. Though he does not play much he loves his percussion instruments.
Eric is a big kid at heart, he is wonderful will children. I can’t wait for him to be a father and to be able to be the crazy dad with the really bad jokes.

About Webby:

Webby is a one year old puppy. Her hobbies include snuggling and de-stuffing her toys. She loves to go to the dog park and play with others. She has a large collection of sweaters because it gets cold and she does not like to be cold. Her dislikes include bath time and grumpy people.

Our Family:

For us family is super important and will stay that way. Erin’s parents are divorced so holidays can be tricky. But the truth is family is family and we make every effort to see them as often as we can. Erin is in charge of coordinating the big holidays for her Grandmother for the last 10 years. Here favorite holiday is Thanksgiving as it brings everyone together especially as the family grows.
For our nuclear unit we like to just relax and hang out as much as we can. We try and leave our Sundays for just us. We understand it is good to be a part of the big family but it is also important grow as a small one.
We are Catholic, Eric was a cradle Catholic and Erin was baptized and later chose as an adult. We have a wonderful Church community who has supported us in our journey to grow our family though adoption. Erin sings in the choir and hopes to someday canter and Eric helps with the audio for the church.

Our Thoughts on Parenting:

We have looked at how we were raised and want to take the core values and pass that on to our child. One of the biggest things would be working as a team. Everyone plays an important part in a family and there is no job to small.
We grew up being exposed to diversity of culture, economic hardships, and the arts. And that made us well rounded. We want to give our child the same exposure, so they can grow and make a difference in the world.
Openness is also a key factor for us as parents. We want to encourage diversity and curiosity. It is far better to give your child the chance to ask questions and given them answers than it is to have them find it from another source.
