Brian & Lauren
Dear Birth Parent:
Thank you so much for taking the time to look at our story and consider our family! We have a deep respect for the decision that you are making, and we would love the opportunity to talk with you and get to know you. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in getting to know us further. We can provide a happy home full of laughter, support, and unconditional love for your child.
About Brian & LaurenWe met over 15 years ago while studying abroad during college. Brian is from the west coast and Lauren is from the east coast, and after bouncing back and forth for a few years we moved to Brian’s hometown of Los Angeles roughly 12 years ago. We love traveling, spending time with friends and family, and relaxing outside in our backyard garden. Brian runs a successful event photography company, and Lauren is a high school administrator. In our free time, we get together frequently with Brian’s extended family in Los Angeles, and we travel to Virginia several times a year to see Lauren’s family. We have a two-year-old daughter, and we are so thrilled to expand our family through adoption. We see adoption as a beautiful way to grow a family through love, which is what family is all about for us.
We own a 1920s home in a diverse neighborhood in Los Angeles full of families, parks and excellent schools. We know our neighbors well, and the people in our neighborhood enjoy spending time together and helping each other out. It’s not uncommon for a neighbor to ring our doorbell to ask a question about their internet (Brian is great with technology) or let us know that they’ll be out of town for the coming weekend. Our house itself is child-friendly, with a living room full of books and toys and a sandbox, playhouse, and collection of toddler vehicles in the backyard. We regularly host playdates and parties with our friends’ children, so our house is set up to be a comfortable and fun place for kids to explore indoors and outdoors. We have an abundant backyard garden where we grow kale, chard, herbs, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions, and we have a few fruit trees as well. Our favorite days are spent out back eating and visiting with loved ones.
We are a family of three with an involved extended family on both sides. Our family members’ lives are intertwined with ours, and spending quality time together is a strong family value that we share. We should mention that we have active and loving grandparents on both sides of the family who are eager for the next grandchild to arrive! We are a Jewish family and observe customs such as lighting candles every Friday night with friends and family. This tradition reminds us of the warmth and light we share with those around us.
We have a wide circle of friends who enjoy getting together for dinners, playdates for the kids, and local adventures. During the summer, we co-host weekly swim classes for babies and toddlers at Brian’s dad’s house. We recently had visitors from Jamaica, so we went out in search of Jamaican jerk chicken in Los Angeles’ “Little Jamaica” neighborhood. Lauren loves taking Simone to the school where she works for “Family Day,” when faculty members’ children get to meet and interact with high school students. We believe that having a strong, supportive, and involved community makes life meaningful and helps children to thrive.
We enjoy traveling on our own and together with family, and we take frequent trips together throughout the year. We visit Catalina, an island off the coast of Southern California, once a year. Brian has been going there since he was a baby, and his favorite curly fries are found on the island. We have family in Hawaii, so we go every chance we get to spend time with them and to enjoy the island lifestyle. Brian’s family tradition is to spend Thanksgiving in Palm Desert, about two hours outside of LA, so we make an annual trip to the desert to see our Uncle Kenny skillfully cut the turkey. For Christmas, we head back east to Virginia to spend the holiday with Lauren’s mom, dad, sisters, nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins, and 94-year-old grandma! Christmas with Lauren’s family is a multi-day affair starting with a massive Christmas eve brunch and culminating with opening presents under the family Christmas tree.
Our daughter, Simone, is 2-years-old. She is a very social girl who loves spending time with people of all ages. She is high energy, caring, and affectionate, and she loves babies. We know that she would be a loving and nurturing big sister.
Our Thoughts on Parenting:
We believe that above all else, children need unconditional love from their parents. As parents, we are role models to our children through our everyday actions, and it is our job to show them how to treat themselves and others with kindness and respect. We enjoy having a warm, hospitable home full of laughter, play, and a supportive community of family and friends.
We value open communication in our family, and we believe in teaching young children how to express their feelings appropriately from a young age. With our daughter, Simone, we began using sign language even before she could speak in order for her to communicate with us!
We also believe that every child is unique and must be seen as an individual. What is best for one child may not be best for another, and as parents we will strive to know our children’s unique strengths and challenges in order to make decisions that will support their individual growth.
